Master Praiser here, and I return with a brand-new feature for the blog, inspired from our latest trip to watch exploitation movies in theaters past.
We traveled back to 1974 to catch this sleazy double bill at the New Daisy theater in Memphis Tenn.
The headline feature, SLAUGHTER HOTEL (1971), is the classic Italian erotic thriller directed by Fernando Di Leo. Starring Klaus Kinski as the director of a sanitarium where a bevy of beauties, seeking mental health, are being dispatched by an axe wielding killer.
The second feature is the head scratcher.
"NOTHING SO APPALLING IN THE ANALS OF HORROR!"
We had never heard of THE PROCTOLOGY EXPO MURDERS. It sounded intriguing and seeing that it was billed with SLAUGHTER HOTEL was the icing on a sleazy cake (Now available at Carvel). To our dismay, the tattered print on display was shorn of credits and there were no recognizable faces in the film. Hence, we were left scratching our heads.
After some digging around, we found this announcement from Boxoffice Magazine tissue dated, August 13th, 1973.
Del-Barto Films is a complete mystery to us. We can find no other movies produced by this company.
Did COVENTION KILLER ever get made?
Did "Convention Killer" turn into The PROCTOLOGY EXPO MASSACRE?
This brief plot description does match the plot of the film that we saw at this showing.
PLOT: Proctologists travel to South Dakota to attend an exposition. Unbeknownst to the conventioneers, a masked killer is thinning their ranks. Featuring tense kill scenes, some grade school level comedy and padding in the form of a five-minute lecture on hemorrhoids. PROCTOLOGY EXPO MASSACRE is worth checking out. Hopefully a print will surface.
If any of our loyal readers have any information on this film, please let us know.
